PHOENIX (KCUB) — Brittney Griner scored 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, leading the Phoenix Mercury to a 90-84 home victory Thursday night over the Connecticut Sun.
The Mercury set a WNBA record for points in a quarter as they took a 45-24 lead at the end of the first period.
Moriah Jefferson added 17 points. Diana Taurasi scored 16 points and Megan Gustafson had 10 as the Mercury (9-20) improved to 5-5 since the WNBA All-Star break.
Rebecca Allen scored 24 points to lead the Sun (21-8).
Phoenix travels to face the Seattle Storm (8-21) on Sunday.
