ASU gets 10th three-set sweep in 13 matches this season

TEMPE — Arizona State scored seven of the last eight points in the 2nd set Thursday night against rival Arizona, turning a 20-18 deficit into a 25-21 victory and a three-set sweep (25-22, 25-21, 25-15) in the Pac-12 opener for both teams.

It was the first meeting between UA and ASU in this year’s edition of the Territorial Cup Series. The rivalry series is waged annually between the two schools in almost all the sports in which they both compete. Arizona won the T-Cup Series last year (11.5-9.5).

Sun Devils hitter Marta Levinska finished the match with 19 kills on a .400 hitting percentage.

It was the 10th sweep of the season for ASU (13-0) and their 4th in row.

Sofia Maldonado-Diaz led the Wildcats with 17 kills.

UA (5-7) will host Washington State at McKale Center on Sunday at 1 p.m.
