Another close defeat for Arizona women in Oregon

The Ducks held off a late charge by the Wildcats for a 70-68 win

EUGENE — Jada Williams scored 13 of her career-high 23 points in the 4th quarter Sunday but it wasn’t enough as Arizona suffered a second close defeat in Oregon, losing to the Ducks 70-68 at Matthew Knight Arena.

UA fell 73-70 Friday night in double-overtime to Oregon State.

5th-year wing Helena Pueyo bounced back from her zero point performance against the Beavers with an 11-point afternoon with seven assist and seven steals. She passed the 250 career steals plateau with the effort.

Kailyn Gilbert scored 15 for UA. Breya Cunningham had 10.

Arizona trailed by as many as 11 in the early 4th quarter before a fierce finish brought them back to two points short.

Grace VanSlooten led Oregon (11-7, 2-3) with 19 points. The Ducks shot 28 free throws (19/28) in the game to Arizona’s 10 (5/10).

UA (10-7, 2-3) will travel to face the Washington school this week, starting with the Huskies on Friday night in Seattle. You can hear that game on Wildcats Radio 1290 with coverage beginning at 7:45 p.m.
