The No. 3-ranked Pima baseball team (11-1, 1-1 ACCAC) opened conference play against Paradise Valley, with a strong start, claiming a 4-1 win in the first game before suffering their first loss of the season in a 10-2 defeat in Game 2.

In the opener, sophomore Collin Senior set the tone with two RBI doubles, while freshman Jackson Glueck showcased his power with a two-run home run.

On the mound, sophomore Maclain Roberts was dominant, allowing just two hits over six innings and striking out seven batters. However, Paradise Valley responded in the second game with an explosive offensive performance.

Despite an early lead from the Aztecs, the Pumas stormed back with 10 unanswered runs, capitalizing on Pima’s struggles at the plate and on the mound. The Aztecs will look to bounce back in their next series against Chandler-Gilbert.

Teammate Linda Rivero also etched her name in the record books, running the second-fastest 800m time in Pima history with a 2:22.12 finish.

Both athletes later teamed up with Alyssa Perez and Ella Allred in the 4×800 relay, securing a national qualifying mark and adding to Pima’s growing total of 32 national qualifying times this season.

The Aztecs’ track & field squad will now shift their focus to the upcoming Pima Multi’s/Indoor Invitational, where they hope to continue their record-breaking streak.

In Game 1, the Aztecs erupted for a 13-run third inning, highlighted by freshman Jiselle Nunez’s grand slam. The offensive onslaught powered Pima to a commanding 17-5 win. Game 2 was more of the same, with sophomore slugger Natalya Rivera leading the charge.
