TUCSON, AZ – The Pima basketball teams delivered statement wins on Saturday, as the women’s team pulled away in the third quarter to defeat Phoenix College 77-49, while the men’s team remained unbeaten with a decisive 98-62 victory, securing their 25th consecutive win.

Nelson Flirts with Triple-Double in Bounce-Back Win the No. 9-ranked Aztecs (18-5, 10-3 ACCAC) snapped a two-game skid by overpowering Phoenix (11-13, 5-8) with a dominant third-quarter run. Leading 32-22 at halftime, Pima exploded with a 26-6 surge in the third quarter, extending their advantage to 58-28—their largest lead of the game.

Despite a slow start where neither team could score for over five minutes in the first quarter, Pima found its rhythm and built a 14-6 lead heading into the second. Freshman Kiley Sours-Miller led the charge with 15 points and nine rebounds, shooting 7-for-13 from the field.

Freshman Melicia Nelson (Window Rock HS) nearly posted a triple-double, finishing with seven points on 3-for-4 shooting, along with 13 rebounds and eight assists. Kennedi Niemann contributed nine points and five rebounds, while Mattanaya Vital (Amphitheater HS) and Katie Burns (Catalina Foothills HS) each added eight points.

The Aztecs will hit the road on Wednesday to face Chandler-Gilbert at 5:30 p.m.

Hunt’s Double-Double Helps Aztecs Dominate the No. 2-ranked Pima men’s basketball team (25-0, 13-0 ACCAC) continued their incredible season, using a first-half surge to take control against Phoenix (11-14, 3-10) and never looking back.

Tied at 15-15 early, the Aztecs ignited a 13-0 run, holding the Bears scoreless for nearly five minutes to build a 28-15 lead. By halftime, Pima was up 43-30 and only widened the gap in the second half, outscoring Phoenix College 55-32.

Freshman Mason Hunt (Bradshaw Mountain HS) played a key role off the bench, recording a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore Cohen Gonzales (Mesquite HS) led the team with 19 points, shooting an efficient 7-for-10 from the field, while also adding five assists and three steals.

Gabe Oldham contributed 15 points and nine rebounds, just shy of a double-double, while Max Majerle (Arcadia HS) and Kota Benson (Mesa HS) each added nine points. Isaac Johnson provided eight points, four rebounds, and four assists, and Kaelum Brown (Casteel HS) chipped in seven points while going a perfect 3-for-3 from the field.

The Aztecs will look to keep their perfect season intact when they travel to face Chandler-Gilbert on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
