Ironwood Ridge beat Tucson 37-22 for a 5th consecutive victory
TUCSON — Sophomore kicker Issac Rhonehouse booted three first half field goals Friday night as Ironwood Ridge beat visiting Tucson 37-22.
The Nighthawks (6-1) jumped out to a 16-0 lead on their way to a fifth straight victory. Rhonehouse made kicks of 30, 45 and 27 yards prior to the break.
Dominic Norris hit Matthew Kroner on a 68-yard touchdown passes in the 1st quarter to help power the Ironwood Ridge offense.
The Nighthawks won their sixth game this season coming off a 2022 campaign in which they had just one victory and missed the playoffs for the first time since the program’s first season in 2002 (18 straight post-season appearances).
IRHS entered the week ranked No. 9 in Conference 5A in the first AZPreps365 rankings. Right now two teams in 5A are slated to appear in the Open Division state tournament which would mean the Nighthawks would be in line for a home playoff game as a Top 8 seed.
Tucson (1-5) opened the season with a victory over Phoenix South Mountain but has since lost five straight games.
