Southern Arizona’s 2 girls teams exit State in the quarterfinal round
MARANA — This 1st Girls Flag Football season in the history of the state of Arizona, came to an end Thursday night for both the Marana Tigers and Mountain View Mountain Lions in the state quarterfinals.
The 3rd seeded Tigers fell behind quickly 14-0 at home to No. 11 seed Glendale Mountain Ridge and lost 21-20.
It was Marana’s (13-1) 1st defeat of the season. The Tigers rallied to tie the game at halftime but a missed extra point in the 3rd quarter was the difference.
Southern Arizona’s Mountain Lions were the No. 10 seed in Conference 5A. Mountain View (9-3) lost big at No. 2 Gilbert Millennium 48-0.
Marana and Mountain View were the only two schools in the Tucson area to field teams in this initial season of girls flag football.
The Tigers shutout the Mountain Lions 22-0 when the two teams met on October 2.
