TUCSON – The Cat 5 made it happen Wednesday night in a 52-44 exhibition victory over Division II Point Loma Nazarene.

Arizona had just five available players when the game began due to injury and illness.

The latest to the medical report was graduate forward Esmery Martinez who missed the game due to a severe migraine.

The Wildcats however did end up playing six players. Freshman Brea Cunningham, who has been dealing with an injury, was cleared by doctors while the game was actually happening.

UA was assessed a technical foul when head coach Adia Barnes inserted Cunningham into the game because her name was not listed in the scorebook as an available player.

Cunningham had to come in because because Salimatou Kourouma suffered a separated shoulder late in the 4th quarter. Kourouma, a transfer from Arkansas-Little Rock, led the Wildcats with 17 points.

Maya Nnaji scored 14 points.

Barnes was also without active players Helena Pueyo, Courtney Blakely and Skylar Jones. Freshman Montaya Dew is out for the season with a torn ACL.

Arizona opens the regular season on Monday, November 6 at New Mexico State.
