Pima Basketball teams get road sweep in Scottsdale
SCOTTSDALE — Both Pima women’s and men’s basketball remain ranked 14th in the country on the NJCAA Division II level and both Aztecs’ teams came back from the Valley with a victory on Wednesday night.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
The Aztec ladies outscored the Artichokes (7-3, 3-2) 22-8 in the fourth quarter and went on to a 63-54 win.
Down 48-44, Pima (11-3, 6-1 ACCAC) went on a 12-0 run and got a boost from sophomore Taina Lee, who hit two straight three-pointers.
Freshman Rylei Waugh scored a team-high 21 points. Reigning ACCAA Player of the Week Dominique Acosta (Nogales) finished with 11 points and nine rebounds.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
The Pima men defeated the Artichokes 110-80 as the Aztecs hit 13 three-pointers and five players scored in double figures.
Sophomore Dillan Baker (Salpointe Catholic) hit seven 3-pointers and scored a game-high 27 points. Sophomore Jaylen Alexander finished with 21 points while freshman Gabe Oldham scored 11 of his 15 points in the first half.
Freshman Cohenj Gonzales (Mesquite) and sophomore Tanner Poeschl (Skyline) both had 10 points off the bench for the Aztecs (13-1, 5-1 ACCAC)
UP NEXT
The Aztecs will be back on the road on Saturday when they play at Cochise College. Tipoff times are set for 2 p.m. (women) and 4 p.m. (men).
