Pima Men stay hot with a 12-point win at Cochise but the ladies fall by 10
DOUGLAS — The 14th ranked Pima Basketball squads came away with a win and a lose Saturday on their ACCAC road trip to take on the Division I Cochise Coyotes in Douglas.
The men pulled off a 81-69 victory while the women lost 65-55.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
Pima won for a sixth straight game as freshman Kota Benson scored 15 of his 21 points in the final eight minutes of the game.
Benson comes off the bench for the Aztecs (14-1, 6-1). Sophomore Tanner Poeschl also made his presence felt off the bench finishing with 19 points. Freshman Gabe Oldham posted a double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds while sophomore Dillan Baker also added 13 points.
The only blemish on Pima’s record came at the hands of the Coyotes in their 79-69 (10-8, 3-4) loss on Dec. 13.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Pima led early in Douglas 10-4 but Cochise closed out the first quarter on a 13-2 run to put Pima down 17-12. The Aztecs (11-4, 6-2) would trail the remainder of the game.
Freshman Rylei Waugh finished with a team-high 13 points while fellow freshman Gabby Lopez (Bisbee) posted 10 points in the loss to the Coyotes (9-5, 4-3).
UP NEXT
The Aztecs are back at the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium on Wednesday when they host Chandler-Gilbert Community College. Game times are set for 5:30 p.m. (women) and 7:30 p.m. (men).
