It was a winning weekend on the diamond for Pima College
TUCSON — Both the Pima Softball and Baseball teams picked up weekend sweeps in ACCAC play.
SOFTBALL
Pima Softball kept its streak alive but were forced to come back from seven runs down in Game 1 against Central Arizona (16-17, 12-14).
The Aztecs earned a sweep over the Vaqueras (13-12 and 10-5) to win their 26th straight game.
Freshman Jazmyne Waddell (San Manuel) finished the day going 3-for-8 with five RBIs. She hit a walk-off in the first game and got the win in a complete-game outing in the second game.
Freshman Yanelyssia Chavez (Salpointe Catholic) had a game-changing hit and got the win in a relief appearance in the first game.
Freshman Talia Martin (Mountain View) went 3-for-7 with three RBIs and four runs scored while sophomore Camila Zepeda (Tucson Magnet HS) extended her hitting streak to 19 games as she finished the day 3-for-8.
The Aztecs (35-8, 22-2 in ACCAC) will play another ACCAC doubleheader against the Vaqueras on Tuesday in Coolidge. First game starts at 1:00 p.m.
BASEBALL
No. 16 Pima secured its second straight 40+ win season on Saturday after earning a sweep on the road at Cochise College (33-21, 20-16).
The Aztecs beat the Apaches 11-2 and 8-4.
Before the 2023 season, the No. 16 ranked Aztecs hadn’t had a 40-plus win season since 1991.
Sophomore Brant Kragel finished the day 2-for-6 with two RBIs. Fellow sophomore Nick Arias (Tucson Magnet HS) went 3-for-7 and knocked in a run. Freshman Collin Senior (Horizon HS) closed out the day going 2-for-7 with three RBIs.
Sophomores J.T. Drake and Garrett Hicks (Verrado HS) got the wins on the mound.
PCC (40-12, 24-10 in ACCAC) has won 18 of their last 22 games and have four games left in the regular season.
They play their final regular season home doubleheader at the West Campus Aztec Field on Tuesday against Arizona Western College. First game starts at 12:00 p.m.
