Rookie sweeps Super Late Models main events
TUCSON — Cassidy Hinds is quickly making a name for herself out at Tucson Speedway.
She’s not the first female driver to twirl the oval in NASCAR Tucson’s main division but she’s certainly doing it like no other woman before her.
Hinds, who drives the 3c car, won both 50-lap main events Saturday Night at Ice Breaker. She also had the top qualifying time (15.195/2 laps).
The 20-year old from Arvada, Colorado is currently leading the points standings in the Super Late Model division. If she can continue that for the rest of the season she’ll be the first woman driver to ever win the championship at Tucson Speedway.
Saturday were Hinds 2nd and 3rd main event wins of the season. She has 7 Top 5 finishes in 8 races. Her 1st victory came on April 13 when she edged 9-time track champion Ron Norman by .001 seconds in a photo finish.
She’s running the Super Late Model Series at both Tucson Speedway and Colorado National Speedway this season.
Norman is back at Tucson Speedway racing this season. The last of his nine points championships came 10 years ago in 2014. He finished 5th in both races Saturday night.
