No. 13 Sun Devils took UA’s best shot in a 3-1 win

TUCSON — Arizona head coach Charita Stubbs called the Wildcats’ 25-15 second set win over 13th ranked Arizona State the best set of the season.

Unfortunately her young squad couldn’t sustain it and were blitzed in the final two sets of a 3-1 (23-25, 25-15, 19-25, 15-25) loss to the rival Sun Devils in front of over 35-hundred at McKale Center.

UA lost a tight first-set 25-23 but came out swinging to the tune a .385 hitting percentage in winning Set No. 2 by 10 points.

The Wildcats however went cold in Sets 3 and 4, hitting just .095 with 19 of their 26 errors.

Jaelyn Hodge led the way with 17 kills. Jordan Wilson had a double-double with 15 kills and 14 digs.

Geli Cyr led the Sun Devils with 14 kills.

ASU (20-2, 8-1) takes the first Territorial Cup Series point of this new year. UA is trying to win the series for a 3rd consecutive year.

Four of the five Fall rivalry series points will be decided by next weekend. Arizona Soccer travels to Tempe this Friday for their annual matchup against the Sun Devils.

Arizona (13-6, 2-6) hits the road next week for Thursday and Saturday road games at Utah and BYU.
