Reports: Canucks send Carson Soucy to Rangers for 3rd-round pick

The Vancouver Canucks have moved defenseman Carson Soucy to the New York Rangers ahead of Friday’s NHL trade deadline.

Soucy was traded to the Rangers for a third-round draft pick, TSN and Sportsnet reported Thursday.

The pick originally belonged to the San Jose Sharks. It was acquired earlier in the day in a trade that shipped Reilly Smith back to the Vegas Golden Knights.

Soucy, 30, is under contract for the 2025-26 season after signing a three-year, $9.75 million contract with the Canucks on July 1, 2023. Vancouver did not retain any of his salary.

After collecting 10 goals and 11 assists in 64 games with the Seattle Kraken during the 2021-22 campaign, Soucy has struggled to regain his form with the Canucks.

The 6-foot-5 defenseman was a healthy scratch twice leading up to the 4 Nations Face-Off tournament and has amassed just three goals, seven assists and a minus-13 rating in 59 games this season.

Soucy notched two goals and four assists in 40 games with the Canucks last season before adding a goal and four assists in 12 playoff games.

The Viking, Alta., native had a no-trade clause and would have had to approve the move to the Blueshirts.
