Raptors take down Jazz for 3rd straight win

Scottie Barnes and Immanuel Quickley each scored 20 points and the Toronto Raptors picked up their third consecutive win by beating the Utah Jazz 126-118 Friday night in Salt Lake City.

A.J. Lawson chipped in 18 points, RJ Barrett added 17, and Orlando Robinson totaled 14 points, 10 rebounds and five assists as the Raptors beat the Jazz for the second consecutive time in a week. Barnes also grabbed 10 boards.

Jordan Clarkson topped Utah with 19 points and Kyle Filipowski contributed 18 points and 11 rebounds, but the Jazz’s losing streak extended to eight games.

Lauri Markkanen scored 16 points in the first half but didn’t play in the second half for Utah. Isaiah Collier put up 16 points and eight assists, Johnny Juzang had 14 points and Brice Sensabaugh scored 13.

Toronto surged midway through the second half to pick up the win to begin a four-game road trip.

Collin Sexton, who only hit 3 of 13 shots for eight points, gave Utah a one-point lead with a three-point play late in the third quarter before the Raptors seized control for good.

Toronto scored the final four points of the third quarter, and then continued to surge into the fourth quarter by scoring the first 12 points to go up 103-89. During that stretch, Utah went scoreless on 11 consecutive possessions.

Utah couldn’t get closer than six after that.

Markkanen hit three 3-pointers in the first 4 1/2 minutes, and the Jazz took a 21-15 lead.

Orlando Robinson scored four points in a 10-0 run that helped Toronto finish the first quarter up 33-26.

Utah made a move in the second quarter after the Raptors took an 11-point lead on a Lawson 3.

Juzang had a pair of old-fashioned three-point plays in a 9-3 Utah run, and then Markkanen helped the Jazz catch and pass the Raptors by halftime for a 58-56 lead.

Utah lost despite hitting 16 of 38 3-pointers, including four from Markkanen and three apiece by Filipowski and Sensabaugh.

John Collins didn’t play for the Jazz and will be out for at least two weeks with a sprained ankle.
