Jackets rally from 3-goal hole, top Canucks in shootout

Boone Jenner had two goals and an assist and the Columbus Blue Jackets rallied from a three-goal deficit to post a 7-6 shootout win against the visiting Vancouver Canucks on Friday.

Kent Johnson scored the only goal in the three-round shootout.

Jenner has four goals in his past three games for the Blue Jackets, who have won two straight after losing six in a row. Dante Fabbro had a goal and two assists, while Kirill Marchenko, Mathieu Olivier and Denton Mateychuk each had a goal and an assist. Elvis Merzlikins made 31 saves.

Aatu Raty scored twice for the Canucks, who had won two straight. Brock Boeser notched a goal and an assist, while Linus Karlsson and Tyler Myers also scored. Pius Suter and Kiefer Sherwood each had three assists and Kevin Lankinen made 32 saves.

The Blue Jackets tied it at 5-all with 3:14 left in the third period when Marchenko’s shot deflected in off Jenner on a power play. Then with 2:52 remaining, Olivier scored from the slot to put Columbus ahead 6-5, but Ratu scored from the top of the crease off a Dakota Joshua pass with 2:29 left.

Karlsson gave the Canucks a 1-0 lead at 8:51 of the first period, scoring a power-play goal from just above the crease off a pass from Sherwood.

Brock Boeser made it 2-0 at 10:35, scoring with a wrist shot from the left circle off a drop pass from Quinn Hughes on the rush.

Jake DeBrusk increased the lead to 3-0 with a power-play goal off a rebound in front at 13:26.

Columbus cut the deficit to 3-1 just 34 seconds into the second period when Mateychuk’s shot deflected in off Jenner.

Marchenko made it 3-2 at 4:54 when he received a pass from Sean Monahan and scored on a wrist shot from the inside edge of the left circle. About four minutes later, Fabbro tied it 3-all when he scored on a wrist shot from the point through a screen in front.

Tyler Myers put Vancouver back in front 4-3 when he scored a short-handed goal off a cross-ice pass from Sherwood at 11:23.

Raty made it 5-3 at 6:42 of the third when he scored from the top of the left circle on the rush, but Mateychuk answered 21 seconds later, scoring on a slap shot from the top of the left circle to pull the Blue Jackets within 5-4.
