Jonny Brodzinski scores twice to lead Rangers past Canucks

Jonny Brodzinski scored his second goal of the game with 4:13 remaining to snap a tie as the New York Rangers survived being outplayed for large stretches and snapped a five-game home losing streak with a wild 5-3 victory over the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday afternoon.

After the teams entered in a 1-1 deadlock through 40 minutes, the Rangers (34-31-6, 74 points) took a pair of one-goal leads only to see Vancouver tie it twice.

Brodzinski scored off a centering feed from former Canuck J.T. Miller 99 seconds into the third and then gave the Rangers a 4-3 lead when he moved into the left circle, put a shot under defenseman Victor Mancini and into the net.

Brodzinski recorded his second career multi-goal game as the Rangers tallied four times in the third to snap a three-game losing streak despite finishing with 12 shots on goal.

K’Andre Miller also scored in the third and J.T. Miller ended a nine-game goalless drought by scoring into the empty net.

Adam Fox scored New York’s first goal and added an assist. Alexis Lafreniere added two assists for the Rangers, who are 3-5-2 in their past 10.

Dakota Joshua scored midway through the first before Drew O’Connor and Brock Boeser netted tying goals in the third for the Canucks (32-26-12, 76 points), who played the final period without Elias Pettersson and Nils Hoglander due to injuries

Igor Shesterkin made 37 saves, including three after the Canucks pulled goalie Kevin Lankinen for the extra attacker.

The Canucks went ahead when Joshua tapped in his own rebound into the right side of the net with 8:09 left in the first. Fox tied it on a deflection of a Braden Schneider just past the midway point of the second quarter.

Brodzinski started the wild third by getting open in front and sending Miller’s centering pass by Lankinen. O’Conner forged a 2-2 tie nearly 10 minutes later by putting in his own rebound and Miller made it 3-2 when his sharp angle shot from the left corner trickled by Lankinen with 7:20 left.

Boeser forged a 3-3 tie 78 seconds later by emerging from the net and lifting the puck by Shesterkin from in front.
