No. 1 Georgia destroys Tennessee Tech in lopsided rout

Carson Beck completed 18 of 25 passes for 242 yards and five touchdowns, helping lead No.1 Georgia to a 48-3 rout of visiting Tennessee Tech on Saturday in Athens, Ga.

Trevor Etienne, making his Bulldog debut, ran the ball five times for 78 yards, as Georgia (2-0) won its 41st straight regular season game, and extended its home winning streak to 26. Arian Smith, who led the Bulldogs with 73 receiving yards, was one of five Georgia receivers to catch a touchdown.

After last week's 34-3 win over then-No.14 Clemson, the Georgia defense has yet to allow a touchdown through two games.

Tennessee Tech (0-2) mustered just 134 total yards, as quarterback Jordyn Potts was 5 of 8 for 18 passing yards and Aidan Littles led the Golden Eagles with 45 rushing yards.

After forcing a three-and-out on Tennessee Tech's opening drive, Anthony Evans III's 46-yard punt return set the Bulldogs up on the Golden Eagles' 22-yard line. Beck then found Dillon Bell in the corner of the end zone for Georgia's first touchdown at the 12:27 mark of the first.

Following another Tennessee Tech punt, Beck led a seven-play, 58-yard scoring drive that was capped with a six-yard touchdown pass to Colbie Young, extending Georgia's lead to 14-0 with 6:37 remaining in the first quarter.

Beck was 8 of 8 for 90 yards on the first two drives, while connecting with seven different receivers.

Georgia held its two-touchdown lead after the first quarter. Beck's completion streak was broken after 11 passes. With 11:45 remaining in the second, Peyton Woodring's 27-yard field goal stamped Georgia's 14-play, 71-yard drive.

On the heels of the fourth Golden Eagle punt, the Bulldogs added a score before the half, as Beck found Dominic Lovett for a ten-yard touchdown pass with 1:11 remaining in the second quarter.

Leading 24-0 at halftime, Georgia outgained Tennessee Tech 250-52 in the first half.

On the opening drive of the second half, Beck threw his fourth touchdown, this time to Smith, for a 50-yard pass to extend Georgia's advantage to 31-0.

After a Golden Eagles fumble, Beck connected with his fifth new touchdown recipient, as Lawson Luckie caught a 37-yard pass to give the Bulldogs a 38-0 lead with 12:21 left in the third. Branson Robinson ran in a 13-yard score for Georgia's only rushing touchdown of the game, pushing the Bulldogs' lead to 45-0 at the 6:46 mark of the third.

Woodring's 30-yard field goal with 3:07 left in the game was equalized by Hayden Olsen's 32-yard field goal for Tennessee Tech as time expired.

Texas A&M dominates in lopsided win over McNeese State

Texas A&M dominates in lopsided win over McNeese State

Texas A&M won a lopsided game against FCS foe McNeese State in their College Station opener, defeating the Cowboys 52-10 with a strong rushing performance.

Running back Le'Veon Moss got A&M (1-1) going early, running 47 yards on the first offensive possession. Including a 31-yard run on second down, followed by a two-yard touchdown run, Moss ended the day with 84 rushing yards and two touchdowns in two quarters of work before sitting out the rest of the win.

Amari Daniels was also included in the rushing attack. Daniels led the second offensive drive, putting Texas A&M up 14-0 after the first quarter.

Quarterback Conner Weigman only played until 5:07 remaining in the second quarter, going 11 of 14 with 125 yards and two touchdowns. Weigman created no turnovers and ran the offense effectively against McNeese State (1-2).

In the fourth quarter, McNeese State had its most successful drive of the game. After almost three quarters of no possession lasting longer than 4:12, the Cowboys started a drive stretching over 10 minutes that continued into the fourth.

On the 19-play drive, quarterback Kamden Sixkiller went 3 of 5, ending with a 10-play touchdown throw to Jalen Wright, making it a 45-7 game. Sixkiller's 33 passing yards on the drive were part of a 9-of-19 day with 80 yards and two interceptions. The quarterback played all four quarters due to the injury of starter Clifton McDowell.

It didn't take Texas long score again, thanks to a game-high 65-yard run by the Aggies. On the kickoff following McNeese's marathon drive, the first play from scrimmage went to usual kick returner Terry Bussey. Now on offense, Bussey received the first handoff in motion, running down the sideline for a nine-second touchdown drive.

It was the longest run of the day for either side and capped off a day of 333 rushing yards for the Aggies.

Following Weigman's exit in the first half, the Aggies intercepted the ball on defense with 2:38 remaining in the half. From there, freshman Marcel Reed entered the game at quarterback and started his first drive with an 11-yard gain rushing.

Reed went 5 of 11 for the day with 71 passing yards and 43 rushing yards.

Texas A&M starts its SEC schedule next Saturday, heading to the Swamp to face the Florida Gators.

Pitt storms back to edge Cincinnati

Pitt storms back to edge Cincinnati

Ben Sauls converted a 35-yard field goal with 17 seconds left to cap a dramatic 22-point comeback and lift the visiting Pittsburgh Panthers to a stunning 28-27 win over the Cincinnati Bearcats in the "River City Rivalry" on Saturday.

It was Pitt's largest comeback since Oct. 9, 1971, when they trailed Navy 35-10 at halftime and rallied for a 36-35 win.

The Bearcats (1-1) built a 27-6 lead before a furious fourth-quarter charge from the Panthers (2-0), who were led by Desmond Reid. The running back had 148 yards on 19 carries and six catches for 106 yards, including a 56-yard catch-and-run score over the middle that trimmed the Pitt deficit to 27-25 with 5:40 remaining in regulation.

Pitt quarterback Eli Holstein was 20 of 35 for 302 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. He connected with Konata Mumpfield on five receptions for 123 yards and two scores.

Brendan Sorsby threw three touchdown passes and finished 22 of 38 for 298 yards while Corey Kiner ran for 149 yards on 20 carries to lead Cincinnati.

The Bearcats had a chance to seal the game with a defensive stop on third-and-4 from the Pittsburgh 26, but delay of game was called on defensive lineman Kam Wilson, giving the Panthers new life.

Pitt drove to the Cincinnati 17, where Sauls made his third field goal of the game to put the Panthers ahead for the first time with 17 seconds left.

After a touchback on the ensuing kickoff, Sorsby completed one pass for 6 yards, then was sacked by Nate Matlack. On the game's final play, Sorsby completed a pass to Kiner for eight yards and his fumble was recovered by Javon McIntyre.

The game featured the return of Cincinnati standout nose tackle Dontay Corleone, who was sidelined this summer with blood clots in his lungs. He alternated defensive series in the first half as his snap count and game conditioning was closely monitored.

Corleone made a big stop for no gain on third down in the fourth quarter before Pitt made it a one-score game on the next play, a 38-yard Holstein-to-Mumpfield touchdown strike on fourth-and-3 with 10:41 left in the fourth.

After a Cincinnati punt on the opening series, the Panthers drove down the field to the Cincinnati 26. On second-and-7, Holstein threw a pass down the seam that was picked off in the end zone by Josh Minkins.

Cincinnati stopped Pitt on the opening drive of the second half, allowing Sorsby to march the Bearcats 58 yards in 10 plays, capped off by a 16-yard pass over the middle to Ohio State transfer tight end Joe Royer.

The Bearcats led 24-6 and made it 27-6 with 4:50 left in the third quarter on Carter Brown's second field goal of the day from 26 yards.

Kyle McCord leads Syracuse past No. 23 Georgia Tech

Kyle McCord leads Syracuse past No. 23 Georgia Tech

Kyle McCord threw for 381 yards and four touchdowns as host Syracuse defeated No. 23 Georgia Tech 31-28 on Saturday in Atlantic Coast Conference action.

McCord, a highly regarded transfer from Ohio State, finished 32 of 46 without a turnover, while finding Oronde Gadsden II and Trebor Pena for two scores apiece. Gadsden racked up six catches for 93 yards for the Orange (2-0, 1-0 ACC), while Pena finished with six receptions for 88 yards.

Playing as a ranked team for the first time since 2015, the Yellow Jackets (2-1, 1-1) were led by dynamic quarterback Haynes King, who threw for 259 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 67 yards and two scores.

Georgia Tech made a furious push in the final minutes but was unable to stop the Orange on their final possession.

Syracuse was in rhythm from the start, scoring a touchdown on three of its first four drives. The only missed opportunity during that stretch came on a 13-play drive that ended in a blocked field goal.

McCord opened the scoring with a nicely thrown back-shoulder pass to Pena, who slipped into the end zone just 2 1/2 minutes into the game. King then drew the visitors even when he kept his balance on a backfield tackle attempt and ran in for a 21-yard score.

Early in the second quarter, McCord and Pena hooked up for their second 11-yard TD strike of the day. After the Orange defense forced a four-and-out, the offense cashed in on McCord's 20-yard TD pass to Gadsden.

Things were looking great for Syracuse when it stuffed Georgia Tech on fourth down early in the fourth quarter and then went ahead 31-14 on McCord's well-thrown 17-yard TD pass to Gadsden.

However, the Yellow Jackets scored two touchdowns down the stretch. First, they found the end zone on a 4-yard pass from King to Chase Lane. Then, following a successful onside kick, Georgia Tech's Jamal Haynes scampered in from 15 yards out to make it 31-28 with 2:31 to play.

Georgia Tech opted to kick it deep and never got the ball back. McCord's 13-yard pass to Gadsden on third-and-10 essentially sealed the outcome.

Minnesota rebounds from loss, demolishes Rhode Island

Max Brosmer completed 24 of 30 passes for 271 yards and two touchdowns, and Minnesota cruised to a 48-0 win over Rhode Island on Saturday afternoon in Minneapolis.

Darius Taylor and Marcus Major rushed for one touchdown apiece for Minnesota (1-1), which bounced back from a two-point home loss against North Carolina last week. Cristian Driver, Le'Meke Brockington and Tyler Williams each caught a touchdown.

Marquis Buchanan had five catches for 64 yards to lead Rhode Island (1-1). The Rams managed only 18 yards on 13 carries against Minnesota's defense. Rhode Island's two quarterbacks, Devin Farrell and Hunter Helms, were a combined 13-for-30 passing for 117 yards and three interceptions.

The Golden Gophers outgained Rhode Island 422-135.

Brosmer helped put the game away for Minnesota with back-to-back touchdown passes in the third quarter.

Driver hauled in a 6-yard touchdown pass from Brosmer to increase Minnesota's lead to 24-0 with 7:57 left in the third. Less than seven minutes later, Brockington caught a 29-yard touchdown pass from Brosmer to make it 31-0.

Kesich added a 47-yard field goal to give the Golden Gophers a 34-0 lead with 11:04 to go in the game.

Minnesota's defense got on the scoreboard on Rhode Island's next drive. Jack Henderson intercepted a pass and returned it 25 yards for a touchdown to put the Golden Gophers on top 41-0.

Drake Lindsey took over for Brosmer in the fourth quarter. Lindsey capped the scoring with an 8-yard touchdown pass to Williams.

Kesich started the scoring with a 53-yard field goal to cap Minnesota's opening drive. The kick offered some redemption for Kesich, who missed what would have been a game-winning field goal as time expired in his previous game.

Taylor gave the Golden Gophers a 10-0 lead with a 1-yard touchdown run early in the second quarter. He finished with 14 carries for 64 yards after sitting out the opener because of an injury.

Major joined the action with a 2-yard rushing touchdown with 1:16 left in the half. The play marked Major's second score in as many weeks and increased Minnesota's lead to 17-0 at the half.

No. 17 Kansas State rallies, tops Tulane on fumble return

No. 17 Kansas State rallies, tops Tulane on fumble return

Avery Johnson threw two touchdown passes and Jack Fabris' 60-yard fumble return produced the winning touchdown as No. 17 Kansas State rallied past Tulane 34-27 on Saturday afternoon in New Orleans.

Johnson completed 15 of 23 passes for 181 yards, with one of his scoring passes going to DJ Giddens, who added 114 rushing yards on 19 carries for the Wildcats (2-0). Fabris' return broke a tie midway through the fourth quarter.

Tulane's Darian Mensah was 19-of-29 passing for 342 yards and two touchdowns, but his fumble led to the decisive score. Mekhi Hughes rushed for 128 yards and a touchdown and Mario Williams had 128 receiving yards for the Green Wave (1-1).

Tulane drove to the Kansas State 1 in the final minute, but an offensive pass interference penalty nullified Mensah's touchdown pass, and VJ Payne intercepted a Mensah pass with 12 seconds remaining.

Chris Tennant kicked a 28-yard field goal to start the second-half scoring and pull Kansas State within 20-13.

Tulane, which scored two touchdowns and made two field goals on its last four possessions of the first half, punted at the end of its first two possessions of the third quarter.

Johnson threw a 45-yard touchdown pass to Giddens to tie the score at 20 late in the third.

On the second play of the fourth quarter, Mensah threw a 13-yard touchdown pass to Alex Bauman to give the Green Wave a 27-20 lead, but on the ensuing possession Dylan Edwards ran 13 yards for a tying touchdown.

On Kansas State' second possession of the game, Tennant kicked a 48-yard field goal for a 3-0 lead. Tulane responded on the ensuing possession as Hughes rushed 3 yards for a touchdown and a 7-3 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The Green Wave increased the lead to 14-3 on its next possession as Mensah threw a 36-yard touchdown pass to Bauman.

The Wildcats responded with a 7-yard touchdown pass from Johnson to Will Swanson to get within four points. Jacob Barnes kicked field goals of 40 and 41, leaving the Green Wave with a 20-10 halftime lead.

No. 16 Oklahoma State rallies for wild 2OT win over Arkansas

Ollie Gordon scored on a 15-yard run in double overtime as No. 16 Oklahoma State rallied from a 14-point second-half deficit to earn a 39-31 overtime victory over visiting Arkansas on Saturday at Stillwater, Okla.

After both teams missed field goals on their opening overtime possessions, Gordon ran for a score and caught a 2-point conversion pass from Alan Bowman for an eight-point lead. The Cowboys sealed the victory when Arkansas' Rodney Hill was stopped on a fourth-down run from the 7-yard line.

Bowman was 27-of-48 passing for 326 yards and a touchdown for Oklahoma State, while Brennan Pressley had nine catches for 91 yards, with a 3-yard TD run. The Cowboys won with 59 rushing yards.

Taylen Green was 26-of-45 passing for 416 yards and a touchdown for Arkansas, while Ja'Quinden Jackson had 24 carries for149 yards and three first half TDs. The Razorbacks lost despite gaining 648 total yards to 385 for the Cowboys.

Oklahoma State used an 18-point fourth quarter to rally from a 14-point deficit in the second half, getting a pair of touchdowns from Pressley in the final 9:37 of regulation.

Arkansas got a 43-yard touchdown reception from Luke Hasz with 4:01 remaining to tie the game at 28.

The teams traded field goals in the final minute as Oklahoma State got a 38-yard kick from Logan Ward with 55 seconds remaining to take a 31-28 lead, but could not run more time off the clock after a false start penalty on fourth down. Arkansas took advantage of the extra time and tied it on a 45-yard field goal from Kyle Ramsey as time expired in regulation.

Jackson scored for Arkansas on two 5-yard TD runs in the first quarter and an 11-yard score in the second quarter for a 21-7 lead.

Oklahoma State's lone score in the first half came on a 73-yard interception return from Kale Smith in the second quarter. The Cowboys lost linebacker Collin Oliver on the play to a left leg injury after he made the hit on Green that forced an errant throw.

Former annual rivals, Arkansas and Oklahoma State met for the first time since 1980. The Razorbacks still have a 30-16-1 lead in the all-time series.

Drew Allar paces No. 8 Penn State past Bowling Green

Drew Allar paces No. 8 Penn State past Bowling Green

Drew Allar threw for two touchdowns and ran for another as No. 8 Penn State rallied in the second half to a 34-27 win over Bowling Green on Saturday in State College, Pa.

Allar completed 13 of 20 passes for 204 yards with an interception. He gave the Nittany Lions (2-0) a 27-24 lead with 6:13 left in the third quarter on a 14-yard scoring strike to Nicholas Singleton.

Singleton added the clinching touchdown with 4:09 left in the fourth quarter on a 41-yard touchdown run, the highlight of his 119-yard effort in 13 carries.

Connor Bazelak completed 25 of 39 passes for 254 yards with two scores and two interceptions for the Falcons (1-1). They rolled up 286 yards in the first half but managed just 88 after halftime.

Jackson Kleather nailed a 42-yard field goal with 47 seconds remaining in the game to draw Bowling Green within seven points. But Penn State recovered an onside kick and ran out the clock.

Penn State came into the game as a whopping 34-point favorite but Bazelak and Bowling Green served immediate notice that this would not be an easy tuneup. The Falcons scored the first three times they touched the ball.

Bazelak hit Harold Fannin Jr. for a 6-yard touchdown just 2:21 into the game, then led a drive of nearly 5 1/2 minutes that resulted in a 33-yard field goal from Kleather. When Bazelak found Malcolm Johnson Jr. for a 15-yard score at the 12:48 mark of the second quarter, the Falcons led 17-7.

Allar, who rushed for a 5-yard touchdown on the Nittany Lions' first possession, connected with Omari Evans for a 29-yard strike to make it 17-14 with 11:48 remaining. Penn State tied it with a 43-yard field goal by Sander Sahaydak with 5:28 left.

But Bowling Green regained the lead less than two minutes later on a 41-yard run by Jamal Johnson. Sahaydak hit from 28 with 14 seconds on the clock but the Falcons took a stunning 24-20 edge into halftime.

Monangai rolled off a 45-yard run to set up Rutgers' first touchdown of the day. He was brought down at the 3-yard line but he would not be denied as he bulled his way into the end zone on the next play.

Akron answered with a 41-yard field goal by Garrison Smith before Rutgers responded with a seven-play, 75-yard scoring drive. Duff kept his concentration and reeled in a pass by Kaliakmanis that deflected off the hands of Zips defensive lineman Bennett Adler for his first career touchdown reception to give the Scarlet Knights a 14-3 lead with 1:54 to play.

The Zips didn't muster much on their ensuing drive and Monangai made them pay, capping a nine-pay, 80-yard sequence by scoring from 1 yard out with 9 seconds left in the second quarter.

Norton's touchdown reception trimmed Rutgers' lead to 21-10 early in the third quarter before the Scarlet Knights responded with another long drive. Monangai capped the 12-play, 75-yard drive by scoring from 2 yards out.

Loveland fumbled a pass reception in the final minute of the half. Texas cashed in on Ewers' 5-yard touchdown pass to Golden.

Zvada's 52-yard field goal in the third quarter cut Texas's lead to 24-6.

Report: Alabama LT Kadyn Proctor (shoulder) doubtful

Alabama left tackle Kadyn Proctor is doubtful for Saturday's game against South Florida, ESPN reported.

The 6-foot-7, 369-pound sophomore injured his left shoulder during pregame warmups last weekend and did not play in the No. 4 Crimson Tide's 63-0 defeat of Western Kentucky.

Earlier this week, Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer said Proctor's injury was more "day-to-day" than "week-to-week."

Proctor was a five-star prospect in the Class of 2023, ranked as the No. 1 tackle and No. 5 player overall in the nation by 247Sports.

He started every game for Alabama last season and earned All-Freshman honors in the Southeastern Conference.

Proctor transferred to Iowa after the 2023 season but transferred back to Alabama after only a few months with the Hawkeyes' program.

Report: Cincinnati DT Dontay Corleone to return after blood clots

Cincinnati defensive tackle Dontay Corleone, sidelined this summer with blood clots in his lungs, will start Saturday's home game against Pitt, ESPN reported.

The 6-foot-1, 320-pound junior team captain sat out the Bearcats' season-opening 38-20 win against Towson but was cleared for full contact on Tuesday.

An All-Big 12 second-team selection in 2023, Corleone has been projected as a potential first-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Dubbed "The Godfather," Corleone has registered 83 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, six sacks and three forced fumbles in 23 games with the Bearcats.

"I'm excited to be back on the field with my brothers," Corleone said earlier this week. "I also want to thank all of our fans for their love and support throughout this process. For the last few months, I have worked extremely hard to make a return."

Maalik Murphy leads Duke to 2-OT win over Northwestern

Maalik Murphy leads Duke to 2-OT win over Northwestern

Maalik Murphy threw two touchdown passes after regulation and a dormant Duke offense suddenly clicked in a 26-20 double-overtime victory over Northwestern on Friday night in Evanston, Ill.

Northwestern's Cam Porter ran for a 10-yard touchdown to open the overtime scoring. One play later, Duke scored its first touchdown since the opening quarter on Murphy's 25-yard pass to Jordan Moore.

In the second OT, Murphy hit Moore for 22 yards and then connected with Eli Pancol for a 3-yard score, but the two-point-conversion attempt failed.

The Blue Devils stopped Northwestern's final possession after the Wildcats reached the 3-yard line.

Duke (2-0) was in field-goal range twice in the waning minutes of regulation, converting on Todd Pelino's tying kick from 22 yards out with 14 seconds left after a Blue Devils lost fumble was overturned by replay review.

Pelino missed a 33-yard field-goal attempt with 2:04 remaining after Duke had moved 64 yards on eight plays. The Blue Devils got another chance following a Northwestern punt.

Jack Olsen's 35-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter came at the end of an 11-play drive, giving Northwestern a 13-10 edge.

Duke committed two turnovers and had a punt blocked, while Northwestern (1-1) had two giveaways among its blunders.

Murphy went 24-for-39 for 242 yards with three touchdowns and an interception.

Northwestern quarterback Mike Wright was 20-for-36 for 158 yards and an interception. Porter gained 93 yards on the ground and scored two touchdowns.

Both teams scored touchdowns after collecting first-half turnovers.

Four plays after Terry Moore intercepted Wright, the Blue Devils were in the end zone on Murphy's 16-yard pass to Pancol for a 7-3 lead in the first quarter.

The Wildcats countered after recovering a muffed punt. They needed to go just 11 yards, with Porter's 4-yard run providing a 10-7 lead in the second quarter.

Duke had only 94 yards of total offense in the first half.

The Blue Devils' first possession of the second half ended with a blocked punt, but the Wildcats let them off the hook. Olsen's attempted 29-yard field goal hit the upright and bounced away.

The teams traded turnovers before Duke got even on Pelino's 49-yard field goal with seven minutes to play in the third quarter.

Will Ferrin's late field goal gives BYU 18-15 win over SMU

Will Ferrin kicked a 26-yard field goal with 1:58 left Friday night to give BYU an 18-15 non-conference win over SMU in Dallas.

The Mustangs' last gasp ended with 1:25 remaining when Kevin Jennings' 4th-and-10 pass from their 40, intended for Jordan Hudson, fell incomplete at the

Cougars' 20. The result enabled BYU to improve to 2-0 and dropped SMU to 2-1.

Jake Retzlaff completed 15 of 28 passes for the Cougars for 202 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions, while Jennings was 15 of 32 for 140 yards with an interception. Mustangs starter Preston Stone played just three series and was 2 of 4 for 4 yards, absorbing three sacks.

SMU led 12-7 in the third quarter after Collin Rogers' fourth field goal of the game when BYU answered with a 61-yard touchdown march. Enoch Nawahine scored on a 9-yard run at the 1:15 mark, followed by a two-point conversion pass.

Rogers' fifth field goal, a 45-yarder with 6:17 remaining in the game, evened the score at 15. The Cougars responded with a 67-yard drive, getting a 37-yard run from Miles Davis on 4th-and-1 from their 48 to tee up Ferrin.

BYU initiated scoring on its second drive, marching 75 yards and finishing it with Retzlaff's 16-yard touchdown pass to tight end Mata'ava Ta'ase, the second time the duo hooked up for a score in as many games.

That was it for the Cougars' attack until their last drive of the half. They had four straight 3-and-outs, then were stoned on a 4th-down run at the 26 by an SMU defense that kept them from scoring points after BYU recovered a fumbled punt at the Mustangs' 35.

SMU took a 9-7 lead at halftime thanks to Rogers' three second quarter field goals. He boomed a career-long 53-yarder at the 13:06 mark, connected from 52 about seven minutes later and nailed a 38-yarder in the last minute.

The Cougars had a chance to take the lead at halftime but Ferrin misfired from 55 as time expired.

Indiana scores school-record 77 points in rout of Western Illinois

Kurtis Rourke passed for 268 yards and two touchdowns and ran for another score, and Justice Ellison rushed for 117 yards and two TDs, lifting host Indiana to a 77-3 rout of Western Illinois on Friday in Bloomington, Ind.

Indiana established a program record for most points in a game, surpassing the previous standard set against Franklin College in 1901. The Hoosiers also set a program best with 701 yards of offense.

Elijah Sarratt (six catches, 137 yards) and Omar Cooper Jr. (four catches, 131 yards) each had touchdown receptions for the Hoosiers.

Indiana (2-0) limited Western Illinois to 121 yards.

Western Illinois, which surrendered 706 yards in last week's season opener at Northern Illinois, lost for a program-record 26th consecutive time.

Leathernecks quarterback Nathan Lamb was 13-for-25 passing for 109 yards and two interceptions. Christian Anaya had five catches for 56 yards.

Indiana visited the end zone on six straight possessions to open the game, failing to score when it had the ball moments before the first half ended with the hosts on top 42-3.

Quick, explosive drives proved the norm for the Hoosiers, who needed 1:58, 2:22 and nine seconds, respectively, to score their first three touchdowns. The last in that sequence was a 71-yard scoring pass from Rourke to Sarratt.

The Hoosiers slowed things down a bit after that, swallowing at least 4:11 of clock time on their next three TD drives.

Western Illinois (0-2) avoided a shutout when Antonio Chadha connected on a 31-yard field goal with 30 seconds remaining in the second quarter.

The Leathernecks moved the ball 69 yards in 12 plays during their most complete drive of the night. A 30-yard pass from Lamb to Demari Davis brought Western Illinois inside the red zone.

Rourke played a sterling first half for the Hoosiers, going 14-for-16 passing for 260 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for a 1-yard score.

Indiana outgained Western Illinois 415-98 before halftime while boasting a 21-4 edge in first downs.

The Hoosiers, who hadn't faced the Leathernecks before Friday, improved to 18-1 against FCS schools, including a 15-game winning streak.

Indiana tight end James Bomba was helped off the field in the first half with an apparent

leg injury.

Florida WR Kahleil Jackson has knee surgery, done for year

Florida wide receiver Kahleil Jackson underwent surgery for a knee injury Friday, with On3 and 247Sports reporting Jackson is out for the rest of the season.

Jackson's father, former Florida star wideout Willie Jackson, told On3 that the surgery was necessary in order for his son to "try to get back next season."

Kahleil Jackson caught one pass for 13 yards for the Gators in their season-opening 41-17 loss to Miami last week.

It is the younger Jackson's fourth year at Florida. After minimal playing time in 2021 and 2022, he hauled in 21 receptions for 251 yards and a touchdown in 2023.

Injured QB Max Johnson (leg) plans to play in 2025

Injured quarterback Max Johnson plans to play for North Carolina in 2025.

He broke his right leg in the Tar Heels' season-opening win at Minnesota last week and had surgery at a local hospital last Friday. He remains in Minnesota, where he talked to ESPN.

"I have a lot of football left in me and know I will be back out there next year," he told ESPN.

Johnson, 23, suffered the injury in the third quarter of the game in Minneapolis when defensive back Justin Walley made contact on a blitz.

When he returns to North Carolina, he intends to go through rehab and do what he can to boost the Tar Heels.

"I'll be there every day supporting my teammates and helping out as much as I can," he said.

The son of Super Bowl-winning quarterback Brad Johnson, the younger Johnson was a three-star prospect in the 2020 class and started his college career at LSU.

After two seasons, he transferred to Texas A&M and entered the transfer portal again after the 2023 season before heading to North Carolina.

Before this season, he had two years of eligibility remaining, though he could petition to play in 2026.

In four seasons, Johnson has appeared in 31 games (23 starts), throwing for 5,923 yards, 47 touchdowns and 13 interceptions.

North Carolina has turned to Conner Harrell, who competed with Johnson in training camp as the starter. The Tar Heels host Charlotte (0-1) on Saturday.

USC retires Caleb Williams' No. 13, restores Reggie Bush's No. 5

USC retires Caleb Williams' No. 13, restores Reggie Bush's No. 5

A pair of Heisman Trophy winners were further cemented into Southern California's legacy Thursday, as the Trojans retired quarterback Caleb Williams' No. 13 jersey and running back Reggie Bush's No. 5.

The program revealed Williams' jersey retirement on a social media video that featured music artists Snoop Dogg and John Legend along with USC coach Lincoln Riley, Trojans women's basketball star JuJu Watkins and a host of Williams' teammates.

Williams became USC's eighth and most recent Heisman winner when he threw for 4,537 yards and 42 touchdowns in 2022, his first year with the Trojans. The eight Heisman Trophy winners are the only Trojans to have had their numbers retired. Williams was drafted first overall by the Chicago Bears this April after piling up 8,170 passing yards and 72 touchdowns against just 10 interceptions in his two seasons at USC.

Bush had his number retired for the second time. USC removed his number in 2010 following NCAA sanctions against the program involving Bush, who received improper benefits during his tenure with the Trojans.

Bush had his 2005 Heisman Trophy stripped and said he did not want to be associated with USC football if his award was not returned to him. The Heisman Trust did just that, reinstating the trophy to Bush in April, and Bush is expected to lead the Trojans onto the field before a game this season, per ESPN.

Bush averaged 7.3 yards per carry and 13.7 yards per catch during his electrifying three years at USC from 2003-05. He racked up 4,470 yards and 38 touchdowns from scrimmage along with four kick/punt return TDs.
